Kayaking lower Shell Creek
This paddle is below the Shell Creek dam so the water is brackish. Most of the islands are marsh in nature and most of the paddle is well protected. You get a feeling of isolation once you leave the launch area - at least I did the first time I explored this area. It's convenient to Punta Gorda and an easy, enjoyable paddle. Shown is a photo of the old railroad trestle that crosses the creek.
The launch is located just before the end of Riverside Dr. where it meets Rt. 17. The park is small with no parking fees, no facilities and it's easy to miss!
